Day 13: Goals

Where to begin?

I have so many huge goals for myself it's starting to get pretty stressful, especially since i HAVE to do most of them right away or I'll be in trouble.

1. Get a job

2. Pay off bills

3. Save up money

4. Find place to live

5. Find second job

6. Finish final exam

7. Work in a salon

8. Save up money for a SLR camera

9. Try and fit my blog into my day to day life

10. Try and live life as stress free as possible. ( I get stressed way too easily...)

Day 12: Something you don't leave the house without

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'd have to say my phone. I could leave everything at home and just walk out of the house with a coat, but I have to have my phone with me or I'll go crazy.

Sharing my secrets

You may of heard that is shutting down on April 19th to move their site to google+. A very sad day since I use that site to touch up all of my photos. On the bright side of things, they are letting us use all of the premium options until April 19th which was photo editing heaven for me.

To show how awesome this site is (AKA how crazy I edit my pictures until they look nothing like myself) I've made a little before/after for everyone to see what this site can do.
My secrets unfold before this blog it seems.

Sweet Potato Pie

It's addicting... you've been warned.

Zach and I made 2 pies on Saturday and I had filling left over, so I decided to make some mini guys. They're sooooo good and they we're really easy.

Sweet Potato Custard Pie

2 small sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
3/4 cup marshmallow creme
1/2 cup butter, cubed
1 can (5 ounces) evaporated milk
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Pastry for single-crust pie (9 inches)
1/2 cup whipping topping

Place sweet potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10 minutes or until tender. Drain potatoes and place in large bowl; mash. Add marshmallow creme and butter; beat until smooth. Beat in the milk, eggs and extracts.
Combine the sugars, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg; gradually beat into potato mixture and mix well. Pour into pie shell.

Bake at 350° for 45-50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Serve with whipped topping. Refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 8 servings.

*I made the crust from the recipe on the tender flake (lard) brand box so before we get into the whole pie thing here's that recipe. (you can use any pie dough recipe, i just found this one super easy)*

Tender flake pie crust
(this makes a crap load of dough so I actually quartered the recipe)

5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 lb tender flake lard
1 egg , stirred slightly
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 cup cold water

Stir the flour and salt together.
Cut in the lard with a pastry blender or 2 knives until the shortening is in pea size pieces.
In a measuring cup, combine the egg and vinegar.
Add enough cold water to make one cup.
Stir the liquid into the flour mixture, adding just enough to make the dough cling together.
Stir the water in with a wooden spoon until mixed thoroughly, then gather the dough into a ball, and separate into 6 portions.
Cover and refrigerate for one hour, you can chill over night, covered, providing you leave it at room temp for 15 mins before rolling.
Lightly flour surface and roll into circles, then pat the dough into pie pans, following pie recipes. Be careful not to stretch the dough.

Day 11: Favorite TV shows

I don't really watch T.V. a whole lot, and when I do it's usually just movies.
Regardless, here are some shows I've really enjoyed.

Just started watching this on Netflix and i fell in love! So good.

Sigma wishlist

I'm a huge fan of makeup brushes; I don't know what it is but I love to collect them. Maybe its the fact that a makeup brush is one of the only things in makeup art that's going to last you for years and years depending if you look after it. I took a course in beauty school for makeup so having the right brushes is a necessity if i wish to continue doing makeup (which i do).

I do have a lot of makeup brushes but I still feel like I'm missing some of the essential brushes, and having more then one type of brush saves so much time if you're doing more then one persons makeup.

The reason I choose Sigma for my makeup brush list is that i know of no other brand that sells 9-25 dollar brushes that are just as good (I'd say better in my opinion) then lets say, M.A.C. cosmetics. Not only that but you get a free travel brush when you spend over $30, and i plan on doing just that ASAP.

Day 10: Something you're afriad of

The ocean; it looks so peaceful, but it's not! It scares me a lot... there's weird things in it that no one has ever seen, and it's super unpredictable with its crazy waves. D:
I'm weird, i know.

Blonde hair care

So as most of you know, my hair is lightened. I got it done during the summer of 2011 (last year) and have gone through many different treatments to get it just right. It took me until Nov-Oct to get it the way I wanted it, which was basically 4-5 months. So if you just lightened your hair and it's not how you expected, don't give up, it takes more then one go.

I use 2 different shampoos to upkeep my blond from going brassy. I've tried John Frieda brand purple shampoo and it does nothing compared to the one I'm about to talk about.

Clairol Shimmer lights- I get the smaller size (8 oz), but it comes in 31.5 oz as well as a 16 fl oz. Its fairly inexpensive no matter where you go to buy it, and it's probably one of the best purple shampoos out there unless you're willing to pay big bucks on other ones. (Which i find pointless)
The only downside is the smell, it's pretty perfumed and it smells cheap, luckily that doesn't transfer on my hair so I have no problem with it.

Next is Rusk Sensories bright shampoo (yes i use two shampoos)- While this shampoo may be on the more expensive side depending on where you find it, I've never had my hair feel so clean, like i mean squeaky clean. You also just need a quarter sized amount for your hair, i have long hair and its plenty. The downside of this shampoo is i find it not as effective as Clairol in the 'purple' department, as it doesn't tone my hair as much as the Shimmer lights does.

I love both shampoos and i find they work very well together, or maybe I'm just OCD about my hair feeling clean... either way i love both of them and have used them for a long time now. :)

Day 9: A favorite picture of your best friend

I don't have a 'best friend'. Best friends have come and go many times, but my sister has always been there. Mostly because she has no choice, but that's not the point. haha

And I've decided to put one then one picture.

Day 8: A place you've traveled to

If you've read my first day of the 30 day challenge you'll know that I haven't traveled a whole lot. My family and I went to WEM (West Edmonton Mall) when i was around 13. On our way there we stayed at the Delta hotel in Saskatchewan, which by the way is one of the MOST haunted places in Canada... *shudders*

Day 7: Favorite movies

I love movies and I have a hard time thinking of my favorites of the top of head, but I'll do my best. These are ones i've watched over and over again and had never gotten sick of.

Garden State

The labyrinth

The Princess Bride

Harry Potter

There's so many I can't think of all of them right now.

Naked face

Hmm... it's funny how makeup can change what you look like?

Day 6: A picture of something that makes you happy

I took this yesterday, we we're waiting for the bus and it was freezing outside.
A picture of Zach being all cold and such isn't exactly what makes me happy, it's more about what the picture means to me. I love looking at this picture; at someone that can make me laugh no matter what I'm going through.
And that is all i need.

Day 5: A song to match your mood

Well if you know me at all I don't listen to music very often... so this is a tough one. I would just do the same song I did a couple blog posts down by The Shins if it wasn't so repetitive, but here's another that came to mind.

And yes it is from The Shins again, sorry!

Day 4: Your parents

My parents have been there for me through thick and thin, the good times and the bad. Many times they've been the only ones there for me when i was feeling lost, which in the past year have been a few times. So many things to tell but I thought I'd leave it short and sweet.
I'm a day late on this post because I was at Zach's and the pictures I wanted to use we're on this computer.

Anyways, here they are.

Day 3: Your first love

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'm sure this might make certain people mad at me, but if I'm going to be truthful, this is him.
I've never felt so loved and in love with someone like this before. It hasn't been very long but I've never felt so close to someone this quickly in my life.

I've known him for a couple years now, and thought nothing of it, never really gave him a chance. In fact, the first time i met him... how do i put this nicely... I may of... disliked him?
We never really talked a whole lot, just gave each other advice, we complained about things that were bugging us and joked around from time to time. I always thought he was out of my league, so maybe that's why i saw him nothing more then a friend.

That's is until October 10 2011 (which is ironically his birthday) that's we started talking a lot more and one thing lead to another. It was completely unintentional, first it was just 'happy birthday' and the 'whats new with you?' then it was the usually complaining about life (thank you for putting up with that) and then... out of no where it was like 'hey, i like this guy'.
Kinda lame but i'm so happy for everything to happen the way it did, because that day i made a new best friend that I can be a complete idiot with and just be myself.

Anyways, you can now puke from the cheesiness.

Day 2: Meaning behind your blog name

Not much of a story behind this.
I just wanted something that I would feel proud of saying when someone asked me what my blog was called, I wanted something that's clever and interesting.

Something girly with the word 'glamor' or 'makeup' in it just isn't me. So i chose 'Girl meets world' something i can stick with for the long run and not have to change it. I also feel like with a name like that it leaves everything open for posting. This way I can post reviews about makeup or fashion and then also switch back to everyday life. Not saying if your blog name is _______'s beauty blog or whatever you can't do that, but I just feel as if with this blog name, anything is possible.

I just wish i could have the proper URL; instead of but someone has taken it and doesn't even use their blog! *annoying*

Day 1: Introduce, recent picture of yourself, 15 interesting fact

I turned 20 this past September, and i know nothing actually changes when you grow a year older but life keeps getting better and better for me ever since the 28th of September.

To name a few things that have happened, I graduated from Scientific Marvel to become a esthetician and work in a fancy shmancy salon/spa. I fell in love with the sweetest guy ever (those perfect dream guys in movies don't even come close) who would probably die inside if he ever saw how terrible i am on this blog for grammar and whatnot... >.> Oh well!

ANNNDD that's about it for the real big things, but you get the idea, right...?

I was going to put a nice picture for this post, but then I was like nah, I'm going to give them a really dumb looking one instead, so here you go. :)

1. July 2011 I found a kitten chilling in a ditch near by my house, so i took her home and made her into a princess. Her name is Emma.
2. Not very original of me, but i LOVE pizza. I could eat it alllll the time.
3. My favorite band is The Shins, as seen on a previous post.
4. I'm a lover of all things cats, I also have 3 in my house.
5. I love having blond hair, its my favorite of all the colors I've gone through. which happens to be several shades of brown and red.
6. I love coke, i drink it all day instead of water sometimes...
7. I want to travel someday.
8. I've only been to Saskatchewan, Alberta, and North Dakota. FANCY HUH?
9. I have a chocolate stash in my room. Shhhh.
10. My younger self only really hung out with guys, which made beauty school a weird environment, which I quickly adapted to. (I think)
11. I get really bad migraines and it's only going to get worse apparently.
12. I eat way too much, and it mostly consists of junk food...
13. New years eve is my favorite 'holiday', even if I'm not doing anything.
14. I want a border collie someday. So cute!
15. I love taking pictures and hopefully I'll start taking more for this blog!

Here we go...

I saw this over at Alex's blog and thought it would be fun to try out.

Way back when

I don't even know how long ago this is, but basically we rented a cabin and spent about a week at my favorite beach near by (somewhat) where i live. We also went to a small water slide park. It was a lot of fun and i hope i get to do something like this again, I remember it so well to this day. I also wish i never cut my hair... because the day i did that was the day I looked like a boy until it grew out. FML.
